Class Timings
Summer Entry and Bridge Classes are offered in July and August 2010. These count towards certification for the Fall 2010 and the 2011 year - start checking this website in May-June 2010.
2011 Recertification classes are offered in November, December, and January - start checking this website in October 2010
2011 Entry and Bridge Classes are offered in January, February and March 2011 - start checking this website in October 2010

Types of Classes
Entry Classes
This class is for people that want to obtain Referee Certification for the first time. This class will qualify you as a Recreational Referee with a Grade 9. Entry classes include 8 hours of instruction, usually over two sessions. There are no age limits for this type of class. Cost is $60.
Bridge Classes
This class is for grade 9 Recreational Referees who want to upgrade to grade 8. This qualifies you as a Referee.   A Bridge class includes 8 hours of instructions, usually over two sessions. You must be 14 years old to take this class.  Cost is $60.
Note: For upgrades to grades 7, 6 and 5 click Referee Upgrade under Other Menu. Bridge classes include 8 hours of instruction, usually over two sessions.
Recertification Classes
These classes are required every year to maintain your current referee grade. This class focuses on specific aspects of the game and provides updates to the Laws of the Game.  Cost is $55. There is a class for grade 9, 8 and 7 (5 hours), and another class for grades 6 and 5 - State Referee (8 hours). The State Referee class is only offered once a year usually in the first weekend of December.

Note1: if you took a Summer class, you do not need to recertify until the following year - See Class Timings above.
Note2: we have eliminated the "Grade 9 only" Recertification class. The "new" recertification class will be for grade 9, 8 and 7, however, grade 9 referees will take a different test.

Referee Grade Levels
Grade 9 - Recreational Referee
This grade qualifies you to to Referee or be an Assistant Referee (AR) for Under-14 or younger recreational games. You can also be an AR for Under-14 and below competitive games.
Grade  8 - Referee
This grade qualifies you to referee any recreational and competitive youth games as well as any amateur games for which assigners feel you have the necessary experience and ability.
Grade  7 - Referee
This grade qualifies experienced referees in the state to officiate all but the highest levels of amateur soccer. Achieving this grade indicates readiness to be considered for a State Referee upgrade. You need to pass an yearly State Fitness Test to maintain this grade.
Grades 6 and 5 - State Referee
This level qualifies you to referee the
Michigan State Premier Soccer League, Regional Leagues and other higher level games within the state. Passing the yearly State Fitness Test is required. Grade 5 indicates the referee's readiness to be considered for National Referee upgrade.
Grades 4 and 3 - National Referee
This level qualifies you for competition at the national level (including professional soccer and MLS). Grade 3 indicates the referee's readiness to be considered for international service. National Fitness test is required.
Grade  2 - FIFA Assistant Referee
